Couture Makeup
One thing you will notice if you follow the seasonal fashion shows are various makeup trends being worn by the models. There are no rules when it comes to couture makeup. It all depends on the result the designer is trying to achieve. Each season there may be a different makeup look featured depending on the look of the clothes. Makeup seen at fashion shows can range from natural and polished to wild and dramatic. Although you may not walk out of the house with some of the looks runway models wear they can be adapted for everyday.
The first thing you need are some examples. If you're not able to sit in the audience at fashion shows don't worry. You can view lots of great makeup looks in fashion and beauty magazines like Vogue, Elle and Allure. You may notice the makeup on the models is extreme. This is to create a visual impact on the runway. It's easy to tone down any look and make it work for you. For example, maybe the look du jour is smoky eyes. Rather than a full raccoon eye you could do a soft smoky eye with shimmery dark brown or charcoal shadow.
Another trend for eyes sometimes seen on the runway is bright eyeshadow in shades like fuschia, lime green, yellow and orange. You can wear this look on a daily basis if you do it right. Start with a neutral shadow in a color that matches your skin. Then, use a thin brush dipped in water to apply the bright eyeshadow as top lid liner. This gives your look a pop of bright color without making you look like Bozo the Clown. You'll also see dramatic lips on models. Red can be worn by anyone, just keep the rest of your makeup neutral and choose the correct red lipstick for your skin tone. Cool toned ladies should go for blue-based reds while warm tones should choose yellow or orange based reds.
You are probably wondering what brand of couture makeup the pros use. Professional makeup artists often have an arsenal of products from many different brands. While some like certain drugstore cosmetic products most use high end cosmetics. High end cosmetic brands include MAC, Make Up Forever, Too Faced, Stila and Chanel. Chanel not only makes cosmetics and fragrances but also some of the finest couture fashions in the world. You can buy high end products at some department stores, online and at the beauty superstore Sephora.
