Couture Shop
A fashion boutique might also be called a couture shop. The term haute couture is French and loosely translated means high fashion. When you enter one of these establishments you will notice they are quite different from the ladies department at your local clothing store. The first thing that may catch your attention is the scarcity in many of these shops. Often they are minimal in design and have a much smaller number of pieces on display. Also you aren't going to find rows and racks of different sizes. This is because couture is tailored to fit each individual.
Another thing you will notice is the price of the merchandise. Couture fashion is never cheap because it is made with the finest materials and craftsmanship by the most famous designers. Examples of couture designers include Prada, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel to name a small handful. At their boutiques you can browse the collections and purchase custom tailored apparel. These boutiques also sell accessories like sunglasses, handbags and jewelry. You will find designer shops in major cities and tourist destinations like New York City, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, Paris and Milan to name a few.
If you plan to visit one of these boutiques have lots of cash or credit cards available. One thing is for sure, the merchandise does not come cheap. You can expect to pay hundreds of dollars for a single item. Some of the least expensive items in designer boutiques are fragrances. Most all well-known designers have at least one fragrance although most have several. Even if you cannot afford a couture outfit you can pick up a bottle of perfume. There are other places to find designer items besides in their shops.
A couture shop is different from what most people are accustomed to when it comes to buying clothes. If you aren't able to buy designer items from a boutique you can find them other places. For those on a budget who want a taste of the rich life, consider secondhand items. Many previously owned couture items have been handled with care and look almost new. While Ebay is a great source for secondhand couture at a bargain, watch out for replicas and imposters. A little online research and investigation can lead you to the legitimate sellers of authentic designer items.
